Change the Default Location For Installing Applications in Windows

It is a good practice to store your documents and install 3rd party applications in a separate drive rather than the drive in which the operating system is installed. This is because, even if your operating system crashes, you may format the 'operating system drive' and install the OS again. Your documents will be safe in the other directory.

C:\ Program Files directory is the default directory for installing new applications in Windows. This means that every application will be installed in this directory if you do not change the installation path during installation.

Say, you have created a directory named 'Program Files' in D drive and you wish to install all applications in this directory. For people who test a lot of softwares, it will be nice if the default installation location is set to this directory, as we need not change it manually every time during software installation. Applications use the default installation location information stored in windows registry. We can set the new installation directory by editing the registry value.

To change the default directory,

1. Run the Registry Editor

Start -> Run -> regedit

2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion

3. Look for the value name ProgramFilesDir and change its value data to any valid folder ( in our case, it is D:\ Program Files )

Make sure you have a backup of the registry before editing it. To backup your system registry,

1. Run the Registry Editor

Start -> Run -> regedit

2. Select File -> export and save the file

Asus Eee PC 1005HA Netbook - The Latest 10-inch Model From ASUS

Specifications: I just can't remember the last I was so exciting over anything. I think the best netbook of 2009 has just been released! When I heard that the Asus Eee PC 1005HA netbook was released, I wasted no time in getting my hands on one of those. Asus netbooks has always been my favorite but I had always wished that they had a more stylish design. Then they released the 1008HA, which was very stylish but somehow expensive. The Asus Eee PC 1005HA netbook is not only cheaper but sports the almost identical stylish design of the 1008HA!

The 1005HA has the specs of the latest netbooks in the market. It runs on Intel's Atom N280 1.66GHz processor and comes with 1GB of RAM. It has a 160GB (5400 rpm) hard drive and a 10.1-inch LED back-lit screen. You can also use its built in 1.3MP web-cam for video conferences. It is Bluetooth 2.1 and wi-fi enabled (802.11b/g/n).

Design: Due to the 6-cell battery, the Asus Eee PC 1005HA netbook is a little heavier than usual, but nevertheless still very portable. It weighs at just 2.8 pounds and measures at 10.3 x 7 x 1.5 inches. It sports the same tapered 'seashell' design as the 1008HA, with a glossy surface. The Asus Eee PC 1005HA netbook now looks just as stylish, if not more, than Acer and Samsung models.

Features & Performance: The keyboard Asus Eee PC 1005HA netbook is extremely easy to use, with a full sized Shift key. The 1005HA fared very well in terms of performance too. Specifications: When I think of Toshiba, I think of reliability and durability. For a while now, I have always wondered why it has yet to enter the netbook market. This model measures at 10.4 x 7.6 x 2.9 inches and weighs at just 2.9 pounds. The external casing of this model has a matte surface as opposed to a glossy fingerprint-magnet surface. This is a refreshing change of design among the other popular netbook models in the market. Generally it has a pretty slim and sleek design. The only thing that bugs me is the protruding 6-cell battery on the back. The thick frame/bezel around the screen is also a little distracting. This model is available in a variety of colors.

Features & Performance: Typing on the Toshiba Mini NB205 netbook takes a little time to get used to, but once you get the hang on it, it feels pretty comfortable to type on. The mouse track pad was also very spacious with huge click buttons. Toshiba claims that the netbook can last up to 9 hours on one charge. The last time I used it without plugging in the power point, it lasted about 7 hours, which was pretty impressive. This netbook was quite speedy. The audio quality from its speakers was only mediocre. Despite its flaws, the Toshiba Mini NB205 netbook is all in all a pretty decent netbook and may prove to be a formidable competitor to other popular models in the market.
